- "Parametric" means that rather than filing for a claim, these benefits automatically pay the traveller, meaning they won't have to fill out forms, following a "trigger" event.
- GHIP = provincial/territorial government health insurance plan
- MEDOC® Travel Insurance | Johnson Insurance
- Canada does not have a national health care plan, but rather a national health insurance program comprised of thirteen interlocking, yet independent provincial and territorial health insurance plans. They share certain common features and basic standards of coverage, but they are not the same. What does that mean? It means we are covered by our own provincial/territorial government health insurance plan (GHIP) for medically necessary hospital and physician services, no matter where we are in Canada. A GHIP does not cover all expenses related to a medical emergency when you are in your own province/territory, and will not do so either when you are elsewhere in the country. A GHIP will not cover – to name a few – expenses related to lost or delayed luggage, trip cancellation/interruption or return of a vehicle. A GHIP will not provide any emergency travel assistance services either, such as directing you to a recommended service provider, or relaying important messages to your family or business during a medical emergency.

- You can always call the hotel directly.
- Call the place you’ve chosen (by Skype, to save money). Tell them you’re about to reserve their hotel with, let’s say, Hotels.com, and ask if they’ll give you a discount for booking direct. Hotels typically pay a 20 to 30 percent commission to booking sites, so rationally speaking, they should be eager to split the difference with you. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t — it depends a lot on who answers the phone and what kind of power they’ve been given; at smaller places always ask to speak to the owner or manager. (You can also ask for a discount via email if it’s easier or if you call and English turns out not to be the hotel’s strong suit.)

- Giovanni's Shrimp Truck -
- 472 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa - 808-293-1839 - Opens at 10:30 AM
- 505 Kamehameha Hwy, Kahuku - 10h30-18h30 - cash only
- Kahuku, a roadside stop along the Kamehameha highway, has been a destination for shrimp aficionados since Giovanni's first wheeled onto this grassy meadow 23 years ago. Soaked in garlic and olive oil before being sautéed, Giovanni's shrimp are an art form: plump, succulent and never soggy. Nearby rivals Fumi's Kahuku Shrimp and Romy's Kahuku Prawns & Shrimp do the North Shore's signature dish proud, too.
- Aji Limo Truck - 57-512 Kamehameha Hwy, Shark's Cove, Haleiwa, HI 96712, 808 364 4023
- Located near the North Shore's famous Banzai Pipeline big wave beach, Aji Limo sells seafood so fresh, it seems straight from the boat. Locals swear by the poke, which many consider among the best on the island. Try the Peruvian-style ceviche or cover your bases with the popular combination Chirashi bowl. If you're looking to expand your palate, try Aji's Thai-inspired version of poke, which adds tamarind, coconut milk and mango to this traditional island dish.
- The Elephant Truck, Shark's Cove (Haleiwa) - 66-145 Kam Hwy, in the center of Haleiwa - Not just shrimp
- Thai doesn't even begin to describe the delicate flavours served up at this locavore destination, recently relocated to Shark's Cove. You can't go wrong with any of the curries, but a highlight is the minced chicken kapow, which showcases the fresh Thai basil growing around the truck in its pretty garden setting.

A condotel is a hotel that has been sold off to individuals, while still operating as a hotel.
Residential properties are not zoned for vacation rentals. Owners and operators who conduct vacation rentals, in most cases are breaking the law. Many renters are unaware that short term rentals (STR) maybe illegal. The risk of "getting caught" is primarily on the owners.
