  About two per cent of people in the world speak French, ranking it behind Mandarin Chinese, English, Hindustani, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Bengali, Portuguese and Malay-Indonesian.
  As well as the 120 million francophones, another 65 million people speak some and an estimated 100 million more can get by in French.
